MY SUPER EDITING COMPUTER ( computer making guide)

oh come on having the wrong computer parts can really impact your editing experience so today we're going to be taking a look at my new super computer and the hardware inside that makes my editing experience so much faster how's it going everybody welcome back to another video my name is ben tk and today's an exciting video actually because for the first time i'm talking about computers i've been getting so many requests from you guys about my computer specs and what's inside my computer that allows me to edit the videos that i make so today we're going to be going through the different computer parts that makes a super editing computer and helps you have a really nice fluid editing experience this information will also help you if you're looking to build a computer or buy a laptop because all this information is compatible and then after i've spoken about the computer parts and all that i'm going to be talking about monitors which i've got these beautiful monitors here from msi and i'm going to talk about what makes them good for editing and why you need to make sure you've got a decent monitor especially when you're color grading now i'm going to be using this computer behind me as an example of a super editing computer and the parts that are inside it and this is the msi creator p100x and it is an absolute beast and it is a pretty god damn sexy looking computer too so if you guys are looking to just straight up buy a computer and not build one this might be a great option for you it's faster than my original computer which i'm super surprised about but anyway let's get into those specs and what makes up a super computer so first of all is the cpu or processor it basically processes every command you make on your computer without it nothing would work at all when choosing a processor it's important to look at two main things and that's its core count and its clock speed processors are made up of cores and the more cores it has the more tasks it can process at one time if a processor has eight cores it can process eight tasks now in modern desktops these days in 2020 you can have anywhere up to eight to ten cores and that's pretty damn good you can even get more if you're willing to pay a bit more you may not necessarily need it now the second thing when looking at a processor or cpu is the clock speed this is how fast each core can process that information which is super important because if it processes it really slow it doesn't matter how much cause it has it's not going to get the job done fast enough now the creator p100x has an intel i9 10 core processor and its base clock speed is 3.7 gigahertz which is pretty good and from experience in premiere pro it has been very very fast the second biggest thing you want to look at when making or buying a new computer or laptop is the graphics card so what's a graphics card graphics cards basically do all the imagery work that you see on your screen when you're playing your 4k image back in premiere pro your graphics card is doing a lot of the work to process the information needed to play that 4k file back smoothly when looking at graphics cards they also have cores graphics cards also have processors and they have ram we'll get to ram later but the main thing you want to look at when choosing a graphics card is how many cores it has they usually have thousands of cores now the reason why graphics cards have so many more cores is because they process a lot more simpler information than what the cpu does the cpu processes very complex tasks tasks that you make and tasks that are happening in the background while the programs are running things that you don't even see happening graphics cards process mainly color information and 3d information in order to display the image correctly on your screen when playing games it needs to work out algorithms in order to display the 3d environments correctly so it basically processes all image data and these are very simple tasks that's why it can have very simple cores and a lot of cores so the more cores the better you also have to look at the clock speed as well on the graphics cards and the better clock speed the faster your graphics are going to load on your computer the faster your 4k is gonna play so the graphics card also helps a lot when you're rendering your videos alongside the cpu which does a lot of work at the same time so it gets a little bit complicated the graphics card is called the gpu the processor is called the cpu and when you're just watching your videos back in premiere pro in your timeline your graphics card does bulk up the work when playing back those videos your cpu also does a bit of the work too so they both work together hand in hand good graphics card with a good cpu is gonna make for an awesome editing experience the graphics card inside the p100x is the nvidia geforce rtx 2080 super it is an awesome graphics card with over 3072 cuda cores which is a lot that's pretty good for a desktop setup and it's been rendering my projects pretty good so whether you're into gaming or content creation this is a perfect graphics card to have for both sides and if you're even into 3d modeling it will drastically help speed up your render time now the last component i'm going to talk about inside an awesome editing computer is the ram and this is also an incredibly important component basically what is ram ram stands for random access memory and what it does is it takes so you've got your programs uh installed on your hard drive right that's where all your program information is that's where premiere pro is basically if your processor which is your cpu if it had to get information from that program from the hard drive and process it it would take such a long time to get to the cpu because the hard drive isn't fast at sending information it's pretty slow so that's why you have ram ram basically acts as a memory holding system so the cpu transfers that program data from your hard drive to your ram and it stores it in there as long as you've got that program open and it uses that information for quick access to keep the program running smoothly and fast and it stays in the ram while you're using that program if it had to get it from the hard drive constantly the program wouldn't really work or it would be super slow and it would just be a pain in the bar so the more ram you have the more information from every program you have open it can hold and access really quickly now when you're exporting your projects in premiere pro and rendering it also uses a ton of ram now most people probably have around 16 gigabytes of ram standard in their desktop setups that's pretty good 16 is the lowest i would go 32 gigabytes of ram is probably the sweet spot it's uh it's a perfect amount but this beast behind me has 64 gigabytes of ram and i have noticed the more ram you have the more your computer will utilize and it will actually help the other components of your computer doing a little less work if you've got more ram so basically the more ram you have the better it's going to run and ram is super cheap to buy as well so it doesn't hurt to just pay i think it's like 80 for some cards to put in your computer if your motherboard doesn't support 64 gigabytes of ram 32 is fine so you can't go wrong with 32. now the processor and graphics card both help each other in a lot of situations while you're editing for example when you're rendering a project the processor works very hard to process all the information in order to render and that graphics card also helps with the image data needed to render that project so what i'm going to do now is i'm going to turn off the graphics card in this computer and show you how fast it can render a project only using the cpu so the video on the top left is showing the full specs but it only has 16 gigabytes of ram instead of 64. the video on the top right is rendering with full specs the best of the computer's abilities and the one at the bottom is with the cpu doing most of the work not the graphics card and as you can see by the one on the top right it makes a huge difference having the graphics card and 64 gigabytes of ram working on the render all right guys now we're going to be talking about what makes a good monitor for video editing color grading content creation all that stuff so the monitors i have right next to me are the msi ps321qr so when choosing a really nice monitor for content creation and editing you want to make sure that it has a good brightness so i believe these can go up to 400 nits nits is the brightness measurement uh some monitors can go up to 1000 which is insane because i don't that would be very bright i don't think i could see you also want to make sure the monitors are capable of displaying hdr which is high dynamic range which a lot of the new ones can do these days and probably the most important thing you want to make sure when buying a monitor is that it's factory color calibrated so when it comes to you in your house and you set it up you don't have todo anything and it's all ready to go the colors are correct and you don't have to buy one of those spider things to put over the screen and color calibrate and do all that stuff because that's a pain in the butt so if you're a content creator like me and you're creating content for the internet you want to make sure that your monitor has a very accurate srgb color gamut getting confusing aren't we so srgb is basically a color range that is the most common type of color range that pretty much all monitors and all the monitors and modern monitors are capable of seeing at an even level it's so everybody can see the same kind of color range so scientists or color people or whatever you call them have come up with this range to display on pretty much a standard amongst all monitors so when you're editing for the internet the internet displays at an srgb gamut so when you're working on your monitor you should be working in srgb and these display a very accurate srgb color gamut so whatever i edit on here it'll look accurate to whatever i post on the internet or what people see on their tvs and that's what you want now most high-end monitors usually market an adobe rgb color gamut accuracy like 99 adobe rgb 100 adobe rgb and this can bring the price up but this is really only for like photographers if a photographer is editing a photo to be displayed on a billboard or in a magazine they need adobe rgb which is a very uh wide color range but as videographers we don't need that if we're just posting to the internet so only look at srgb if you are a content creator posting things on the internet otherwise if you're a cinematographer and you're looking to make short films or if you're looking to make movies displayed on projectors you need to work in a color gamut space of dci p3 i believe it is and so you want to look at a monitor that can display p3 style footage and these awesome monitors actually come with these light protection magnetic shields let's just call them that because that sounds pretty cool they're shields um yeah so they just they stop the light from coming from the windows and reflecting on your screen with the side panels here which is really cool another thing that i love about these screens is the fact they have a matte finish over the top so when you've got light coming in there's no reflections so whether you guys are building your own computer or you're looking to buy a laptop or you're looking to buy an actual desktop setup pc um i'm gonna put the link to this bad boy in the description below because it actually is a dope computer and i would not recommend anything to you guys if i thought otherwise i'm very honest about the products that i use and i will only review them if i think they are great and i will use them so you have my word this is an awesome computer the link is in the description below if you're looking to just straight up buy one because sometimes that's easier than building one believe me you've done that and that's it for this video guys my name is ben tk and i'll see you in the next video peace have a good one
